I worked at Textron Weapon and Sensor Systems for my first co-op from January through June 2015. Primarily, I was involved in small internal research and development (IRAD) teams as a mechanical design and test engineer. I had to use my 3D CAD modeling and GD&T drawing skills to design critical test instruments, high profile marketing models and new conceptual products in a fast work pace environment. These designs had to not only look good on the computer, but also be realistic in terms of structure, cost, manufacturing, and assembly. In addition to computer modeling, I was also expected to communicate with the machine shop to make sure that my designs were realistic and appropriate for the the fabrication processes that were available. For the designs I made, I was highly involved in their testing and analysis, using the results to either validate the design or to make improved iterations. I was responsible for communicating with my team to show the progress I had made and to comment and critique the ideas and work of others in an honest and candid manner.
